New Members/Trustees

Friday, 16 June 2023, 12.00pm

London Sinfonietta is seeking up to three new Council Members/Trustees for the upcoming 23/24 Season. Individuals who share a deep commitment to the transformative power of music are sought to contribute to the operational delivery and strategic direction of the charity’s activities. Diversity is valued, aiming to enhance decision-making with fresh perspectives.

The London Sinfonietta Council/Board of Trustees plays a crucial role in ensuring that the charitable company meets public benefit requirements. Currently consisting of ten members, including six independent individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, the Council oversees and guides activities.

New Board Members are invited to dedicate their time and energy to support the organisation as it enters an exciting new phase of development. Previous board experience is not necessary, and although these positions are unpaid, they offer valuable opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and career advancement, instilling confidence as a board and committee member.

The desired Council Members reflect a balanced mix of gender, age, experience, and background, genuinely representing the society in which the organisation operates. Individuals with diverse experiences, backgrounds, and skill sets are encouraged to apply, including those beyond the music or creative arts sectors.

Support in the following areas is particularly sought for the next phase of the London Sinfonietta’s ambitions:

Business development and change management
Fundraising and expanding/diversifying the income base
Communications and demonstrating impact
Audience development and data-driven marketing insights

Council members should be available for approximately four board meetings per year, typically scheduled from 6-8pm. Additionally, there will be a short Annual General Meeting (AGM) and at least one annual Board/management team strategy day. Council members are expected to join at least one of the Board’s sub-committees, based on their specific skills and interests. Sub-committees usually meet two or three times a year for about two hours during daytime hours. Ad hoc availability is also required for providing support and advice to the Board and management team, as well as attending London Sinfonietta performances whenever possible.

Council members are appointed for a three-year term, renewable for a maximum of nine years.
