Writers in Schools Scheme
The Writers in Schools Scheme, co-funded by the Arts Council and administered by Poetry Ireland, is currently accepting applications. This scheme part-funds visits by writers and storytellers to schools throughout the island of Ireland, with a maximum award of €200. The scheme is designed to enrich the literary and artistic education of young people, promote literacy and language development, and provide employment opportunities for writers.
Poetry Ireland, an external agency, operates the Writers in Schools Scheme. Interested applicants can contact them via telephone at 01 6789022, email at writersinschools [at] poetryireland.ie, or visit their website at www.poetryireland.ie for more information. Please note that applications for the Writers in Schools Scheme are currently being accepted with the proviso that public health advice from the HSE/Government will be followed.
The Writers in Schools Scheme is a valuable opportunity for writers and storytellers to share their craft with young people and inspire the next generation of writers. The scheme is also an important way to promote literacy and language development in schools and provide employment opportunities for writers.
