Cellissimo presents: Bach Plus Series – Jakob Koranyi

Cellissimo presents: Bach Plus Series – Jakob Koranyi

Monday, 20 May 2024, 6.30pm

A Tale of Sixes! Just as the six monumental Bach Cello Suites form the core of the entire solo cello repertoire, the Bach Plus Series forms the core of Cellissimo. Each day at 1.00pm, starting on Monday 20th May, Cellissimo presents a different cellist in the heart of Galway, in the historic setting of St Nicholas Collegiate Church. Six days, six suites, six cellists.

But that is not all.

Music for Galway has commissioned six new solo cello works from six different Irish composers, one of which will be premiered each day alongside its partner suite. And even that is not all, as each programme is repeated later the same day in a different venue in County Galway, sometimes with a different cellist. The series features a generous mix of Irish and International cellists and promises to bring moments of intimacy, grace and joy to those who attend.
