Irish Choir Ranked Seventh in the World

The Irish choir New Dublin Voices has been ranked within a list of the top ten chamber choirs in the world. The choir, directed by Bernie Sherlock, was listed as seventh out of a total list of 1,000 choirs compiled by Interkultur, the organisation that compiles the World Choir Games.

The ranking is based on performance in a number of international competitions. The top ranking choir overall is the Stellenbosch University Choir from South Africa — one of three South African choirs ranked in the top ten. The top ranking chamber choir is University of Louisville Cardinal Singers from the United States.

New Dublin Voices was founded by Sherlock in 2005. Since then the choir has won a number of international prizes, including the International Choir Contest of Flanders-Maasmechelen in Belgium, the Concorso Polifónico Guido d’Arezzo in Italy and the Fleischmann International Competition at the Cork Choral Festival.

The choir performs regular concerts in Ireland, with a mix of reperoire from medieval music to new commissions. Composers Linda Buckley, Enda Bates, Jonathan Nangle, Garrett Sholdice, Ian Wilson and Ben Hanlon have all been commissioned by the choir.
