Contemporary Music Centre and Chamber Choir Ireland Seeking Composers for ‘Choral Sketches’ Project

Professional development programme begins this spring; deadline for applications is 7 March.

The Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) and Chamber Choir Ireland (CCI) have announced an open call for composers who wish to develop their skills in writing choral music. The programme is open for applications until 7 March and will begin in April, running until early 2025.

Three composers will be selected to take part in Choral Sketches, which will provide support and guidance throughout the entire composition process, from initial concepts to the completion of the piece. The selected composers will be provided with one-to-one mentoring sessions with composer Rhona Clarke and the opportunity to workshop their ideas, or ‘sketches’, with CCI and conductor Paul Hillier. The finished pieces will be performed by CCI in early 2025 and a recording will be made of the works for archival and study purposes. The composers will also receive a stipend of €500.

Composers born or based on the island of Ireland are eligible to apply. Applications must include a written proposal and two recently completed original scores in PDF format with accompanying recordings.
