ABOUT THE HIGH HOPES CHOIR:

Fomed in 2014, The High Hopes Choir is a musical outlet for those affected by homelessness in its various forms.

Originally founded by renowned conductor, David Brophy in association with some of Ireland’s most recognised homeless charities including Focus Ireland and Dublin Simon Commuity, the choir was the subject of the IFTA-winning documentary of the same name. This ambitious performance-based project saw two regional choirs established in Dublin and Waterford made up of people affected by homelessness and the staff and volunteers who work with them.

In December 2015, the critically acclaimed and much anticipated follow up, Higher Hopes also aired on RTÉ . The choir has continued to expand, also launching a choir in Cork with the support of the city's oldest chartiy, Penny Dinners.

Today The High Hopes strives to engage, educate and entertain - empowering its members and changing the public perception of what it means to be homeless through the power of music.

The High Hopes Choir has performed at a vast array of events including Electric Picnic and Áras an Uachtarán's Summer Garden Party, as well as numerous TV and radio appearances. In March 2017, the choir was invited to perform in the European Parliament in Brussels at a seminar on homelessness which marked the launch of the Second Overview of Housing Exclusion in Europe. In February 2018 the choir joined The Script in Dublin's 3 Arena for a special performance of their single Arms Open to an audience of approximately 13,000 people. They also headlined Rock Against Homelessness in Dublin's Olympia Theatre that same year.

The choir has recorded two EPs - one of which was a collaboration with celebrated artist Christy Moore - and recorded backing vocals for Camille O'Sullivan in Windmill Lane Studios. The choir has also contributed to a number of charity recordings including 'We All Fall Down' with Irish artists Glen Baker, Don Baker, Frances Black and Christy Dignam and 'Homeward Bound' by Street Lights featuring Bono, Gary Lightbody, Loah, Saint Sister and numerous other acclaimed Irish artists.

Despite its many accolades, the choir’s real success is measured in the individual achievements of its singers. Since joining the choir, members have found permanent accommodation, rejoined the workforce, and returned to both part time and full time education.

"The choir has given visibility and identity to a part of our society that most would rather avoid on the street." - Karen Cowley, Wyvern Lingo

"You'd want to have been made of stone not to be moved by the story of the High Hopes Choir…" - Drogheda Independent
