Migrations String Quartet Weekend
The National Concert Hall will this weekend host the Migrations String Quartet Weekend, a two-day event showcasing leading quartets from across Europe, including the Belcea Quartet, Carducci Quartet, Pavel Haas Quartet, Solas Quartet, and Modigliani Quartet.
The event is curated to highlight the depth and beauty of string quartet repertoire, spanning works from the 18th to the 21st century. Notably, the weekend will feature the Irish première of Charlotte Bray’s Ungrievable Lives, a piece reflecting on the migration crisis. Additionally, compositions by Mark Anthony Turnage, Jonathan Dove and Valentin Silvestrov will be performed, each touching upon pressing global issues, from the repercussions of the Brexit referendum to the enduring conflict in Syria to cultural ties with Ireland. Saturday morning will also features a public masterclass with the Belcea Quartet.
