Peltomaa Fraanje Perkola Trio @ Bray Jazz Festival 2024

Friday, 3 May 2024, 6.30pm

Town Hall – Friday, 3rd May, 6.30pm
This haunting northern European trio draw upon elements of medieval, digital and jazz music to create meditative, dreamlike soundscapes that are alluring and captivating.

Early music prodigy Mikko Perkola, who plays the 15th century viola da gamba, teams up with his Finnish counterpart, singer Aino Peltomaa, and Dutch pianist Harmen Fraanje, for a recital that coincides with the launch of their second album.

Early song, piano and viola da gamba combine with electronic effects and medieval harp to create post-classical music that is both haunting and
atmospheric.

Their songs are fascinating original poetry from singer Aino Peltomaa, Finnish poet Saima Harmaja, Hildegard von Bingen (1098–1179), and from the Cantus Sororum (Songs of the Sisters), a collection of medieval Bridgettine chants.
