New Stiúideo Cuan Traditional Music Series on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta

'Beo ón gCuan' features 10 live concerts recorded at the music venue and studio in An Spidéal.

Beo ón gCuan, a new series of live concert recordings made in Stiúideo Cuan in An Spidéal, Co. Galway, earlier this year will be broadcast every Thursday evening at 7pm on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, starting on 8 June.

The series will feature a range of leading traditional groups, beginning with Téada on 8 June, then Líadan (15 June), Slide (22 June), The Bonny Men (29 June), Skipper’s Alley (6 July), Raw Bar Collective (13 July), Na Casaidigh (20 July), Altan (27 July), T with the Maggies (3 August), and the trio of Edel Fox, Neill Byrne and Macdara Ó Faoláin (10 August). The concerts were recorded in the intimate 65-seater venue with a live audience and will be available on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and on the station’s Youtube channel and Facebook page.

Concert series and productions
The concerts form part of the Féasta Ceoil An Spidéil ‘23 concert series, which ran from March until last weekend and also featured Paddy Keenan, Michael McGoldrick and Sharon Shannon. This was the second concert series from Stiúideo Cuan, which opened in November 2021 and is based beside the Ceardlann craft centre in the Gaeltacht village. The venue and studio has also produced two series of the traditional music programme Cuan an Cheoil, which features Liam Ó Maonlaí in conversation with, and performing alongside, a range of artists including Síle Denvir, Mary Bergin, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Liam O’Connor.

Founded by musicians Charlie and Éilís Lennon with Artistic Director Darach Mac Con Iomaire, Stiúideo Cuan has recently undergone substantial development. It has transformed from a studio only to a 65-seater performance venue equipped with facilities for rehearsals, production, recording and audio-visual post-production. Upcoming productions include the third series of Cuan an Cheoil and an online TG4 series featuring new Irish pop, rock and hip hop-bands titled Ceolán.
