Sounds of Europe

Friday, 14 October 2022, 8.00pm

Sounds of Europe with artists Smetnaki (Slovenia), Ben Reidy (UK), Paddy's Bangers (Czech Republic) and Ingo & William (Netherlands). An eclectic mix of music from across the continent from gypsy jazz, Irish trad to folk, traditional Czech to funky ska punk!

Smetnaki
Smetnaki - Rubbish Bins in translation - are a vocal instrumental collective of six schooled and relatively up to your interpretation educated musicians. As enthusiastic and most also academically trained jazz cats their musical interests naturally coincided in a (literally) funky mix of danceable ska, punk and raggae. Genre wise we have never fully committed to a certain label. Their music is and is still being written as a somewhat satirical, heartfelt response to daily situations and contexts ranging from personal impressions to broader social issues.

Paddy’s Bangers
Paddy's Bangers is a group of five young musicians from Sušice, Czech Republic, playing mainly Irish folk music. They were founded at the end of 2016 as a group of good friends growing up together in the Sušice Children's Choir.

Ingo & William
Ingo and William are two friends from Meerssen in the Netherlands and from their performance you can expect the type of gypsy jazz, as was played by legends like Django Reinhardt in the night clubs of Paris in the interbellum period. Ingo regularly performs with two formations, a jazz duo called ‘Salted Butter’ together with a double bassist, and a gypsy band called the ‘Pica Trio’, consisting of two guitars and a saxophone.

Ben Reidy
Ben is a solo acoustic guitar playing singer from Sherborne in the UK. His debut album “Be Safe, Goodbye” was released in July of 2022 with his performances bringing a mixture of covers and originals, with the covers being anything from the 80’s to the 2010’s!
