South, Always South!
County Kildare Orchestra with soloist Brian Hughes on uilleann pipes & whistles and narrator John MacKenna present SOUTH, ALWAYS SOUTH!
The story in music, words, song and pictures of explorer Ernest Shackleton’s life, the Endurance expedition and his extraordinary legacy
The work commemorates Kildare born Ernest Shackleton, who led the Imperial Trans-Antarctic expedition on 'Endurance' in 1914. Ice-floes caused the ship to sink resulting in a dramatic eighteen month rescue effort, forever cementing Shackleton’s reputation as an exceptional leader.
Composer and soloist Brian Hughes plays the uilleann pipes & whistles, supported by the County Kildare Orchestra, with narration by John MacKenna, song by members of the Monasterevin Gospel Choir and with dramatic original photos.
