Emily Magner Hurley – Airs & Graces
"Airs & Graces" is a solo piano album which blends the Irish traditional and 19th century classical styles, from composer-performer Emily Magner Hurley.
Emily is a coloratura soprano, composer, cellist and pianist. She studied composition to Masters level in UCC under John Godfrey and Marcus Zagorski. Her work as a musician includes music teaching at second and third level, librarianship at the AOIC and composer of sacred music. She was a composer in residence with the Cork International Choral Festival. Her most notable performance to date was on Culture Night 2019 when a concert of her original sacred choral music was performed at St Mary’s, Popes Quay, Cork.
Her debut album “Airs & Graces” is a collection of 17 original pieces for piano. Many of these pieces bear witness to the strong influence that the melodic and harmonic styles of Carolan, Ó Riada, Whelan and Ó Súilleabháin have had on Emily’s musical education.
“Airs & Graces” debuted online on September 18th, 2020, in association with Culture Night, from Jeffer's Pianos, Bandon, and is available from her website.
