Cooler Jazz Jam (+ Cooler Clinic)
The Cooler is a new rehearsal and development space for jazz and improvised music in Dublin, run by Improvised Music Company. It’s a space to develop your music, to meet other musicians, participate in workshops, and highlight the amazing things that Ireland’s improvising musicians are doing.
The next Cooler Clinic returns this June 5th (bank holiday Monday) and the theme is “the art of describing your music”. Drop in for a chat during the day, or join us in the evening for the first ever Cooler Jazz Jam! Have a drink, play some music, and see the new space in action!
Presentations: The Art of Selling Yourself (without ick). Useful ways of describing your music for different scenarios (press, bookers, streaming services et al), deconstructing good pitches/copy, and prompts for writing all of the above. Attendees will receive a pack of templates for different types of copy, for various purposes
Consultations: Book or drop in for one-to-one help or advice on anything related to your music career. Get help with writing your new bio or pitch, workshop through ideas for talking about your music, practise a pitch, or bring along any questions on funding applications, social media, PR, releasing music or anything else music-biz, all welcome.
Group Listening Session: Play one of your songs for the group & receive feedback about how people hear your music; adjectives, impressions, and peer testimonials are the name of the game here
Cooler Chats: Drop in for a casual drink and a chat, or take part in a ‘speed dating’ round to introduce yourself and your music to someone in a short space of time!
The Cooler Jazz Jam will kick off at 7pm, and doors will be open from 6pm to have a drink, meet new folks or old friends, or experiment with talking about your music to some new people! Anyone is welcome to join the Cooler house band to riff on favourite standards and have a play with the new space. Backline is provided, just bring yourself and your instrument!
The Cooler is accessed from the Mary's Abbey entrance to The Complex - just off the LUAS tracks. Check the little blue door for our IMC doorbell and give it a ring to drop in and join us.
Please register for one-to-one sessions at particular times with the ticket link above. If you'd like a specific time or want to be sure of a one-to-one session, we'd recommend booking a time. You can change this later, but drop-ins during busy times might involve some waiting time, or might involve working in a small group rather than one-to-one.
If you can’t make it to this event but would like to participate, drop us a line to arrange a Zoom call – our DMs are always open!
