The Model, home of The Niland Collection in Sligo is one of Ireland’s most important and innovative contemporary arts centres. The Model houses The Niland Collection, one of the most prestigious national collections of Irish twentieth-century art. Visual arts are at the core of our ambitious programme, which also includes music, film and an active education and access programme.

The Model is currently recruiting a Director who will lead The Model over the coming five years and continue our development as a leading arts institution of national and international significance.

The Director will define and implement the strategic vision for the organization and in collaboration with The Model team of curators, will devise and oversee The Model’s artistic programme. As Director they will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of The Model including staff, public relations and finances and will demonstrate creativity on all fronts to ensure that the organisation is run to the highest professional standard.

The successful candidate will have the necessary expertise and experience to lead and manage this dynamic organisation – with an ambitious approach to development. They will have a proven track record of innovative programming in the visual arts. They will demonstrate scholarship on the work of Jack Butler Yeats and other important 20th century artists such as are included in The Niland Collection and will be able to present and showcase traditional art through a contemporary lens. Evidence of at least three years prior experience in a lead role concerned with business, strategy, income generation, operations and people management will be required.

Duration: 5 year fixed term contract.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience.
