Associate Lecturer in Music Education
The University of York's School of Arts and Creative Technologies is seeking an Associate Lecturer in Music Education for a fixed-term, part-time position (0.5 FTE) over 12 months. The role involves delivering both practice-based and theory-led teaching on MA Music Education programmes, with a focus on Group Teaching and Leadership, and potentially Instrumental and Vocal Teaching, depending on the candidate's expertise. Responsibilities include supervising postgraduate projects, administrative duties, participating in committees, and contributing to student recruitment and outreach activities.
Candidates must possess a postgraduate qualification in Music Education or a related field, or equivalent professional experience, alongside an appropriate teaching qualification or relevant teaching experience. A commitment to continuous professional development is essential. The successful applicant will demonstrate specialist knowledge in music education, particularly in group teaching and experience with early years or SEND pupils. The role requires the ability to design and deliver diverse teaching materials, evidence of effective course planning and student supervision in Higher Education, and a range of engaging teaching techniques. Excellent communication skills, a commitment to high quality, creativity, and a collaborative work ethic are also required.
