Antoni O’Breskey returns to Arthur's Blues and Jazz Club for a special evening of music, celebrating his work Irish Meets the Blues (1980), a musical journey where Blues meets its roots in the traditional Irish music, through surprisingly original compositions and re-elaborated versions of well known pieces.

“A true musical visionary, one who not only sees through cultural barriers, he ploughs through them. For this composer, musical categories of genre, century and nation bear no restriction or limitation for his creativity—he brings all eras and cultures together in one musical space.”COLLEEN TAYLOR, THE IRISH ECHO

"It’s musicians like these that are at the forefront of reshaping the sound world of Irish music"

Antoni O’Breskey is an Italian-born composer and pianist with Argentinian roots.
He introduced improvised-style piano into Irish and Flamenco music during the early 80's, blending it with blues and creating a unique jazz piano style.
In ‘80, he released ‘Irish Meet the Blues’, praised for its innovative fusion of Irish tradition and Blues.
In ‘88, with his work ‘Al Kamar’ he brought together Jazz, Irish music, Flamenco and the music from the Maghreb.
This project premiered in Paris at Theatre La Cigale, Le Cirque d’Hiver and l’Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris with special guests Manu Di Bangu and Jacques Higelin, and then toured worldwide.

“Mesmerising. Al Kamar is a snapshot of musicians in thrall to the sensuality of Mediterranean music and the impenetrable depths of the Orient. […]
O’Breskey takes a few prisoners in his search for the sublime. […]
SIOBHAN LONG, THE IRISH TIMES

‘92 saw the release of ‘Orekan’, a groundbreaking symphonic concept that united classical piano with instruments from diverse ethnic traditions.
“Orekan is not only a masterpiece, it is above all a unique social document which gives us a strong idea of our roots, and in addition points out a few possible roads we might take in the future” OLIVER SWEENEY, HOTPRESS

For many years he was gathering together extraordinary musicians from all over the world, and recording more than 35 albums.
Amongst his collaborators are Ronnie Drew (The Dubliners), Antonio Carmona (Ketama), Mairtin O’Connor (De Dannan), José Seves (Inti-Illimani).

His contributions to Irish culture were celebrated in the National Concert Hall in Dublin in 2005, 2007, 2012.
He recently released ‘Samara’ ( 2020) and ‘Blessed Sadness’ (2021) to critical acclaim.
He’s currently working on a new album with Ultan O’Brien (Slow Moving Clouds).
