In this concert we focus on Fauré’s so-called middle period, music written between the ages of 40 and 50. Michel Dalberto has chosen a wide-ranging selection of works to reflect this period, including the charming set of four-hand pieces “Dolly”, written for the daughter of Fauré’s mistress Emma Bardac. Two groups of exquisite songs also feature in the programme, which culminates with the D minor piano quintet, which has one of the most beautiful openings in the entire chamber music repertoire.
