Donagh Choir and DCO in concert in Letterkenny

Sunday, 19 February 2023, 3.00pm

The Donagh Choir from Inishowen will be joining forces with the Donegal Chamber Orchestra at a concert in Conwal Church in Letterkenny on Sunday 19th of February at 3pm.

The concert will also feature soloists Danielle Kelly (soprano) and Seán McConologue (tenor).
On the programme will be works by Haendal, Mozart and Bach, as well as arrangements of popular music such as Ed Sheeran's 'Supermarket Flowers'.

The Inishowen-based composer John McLachlan will conduct his hymn 'Alone with None' for choir and orchestra, as well as his 'Tango' for strings, premiered recently by the Donegal Chamber Orchestra.

Conducting the Donagh Choir will be Helen Haughey. Spanish cellist Victor Yélamo will conduct the DCO, which is led by Hungarian violinist Orsolya Szabó-Yélamo.

Victor Yélamo said they're all looking forward to what promises to be a memorable afternoon in a very special venue.
"This is the opening concert in our 'Sundays in Conwal' series for 2023, and it's a great way to start. The Donagh Choir and the DCO first presented this programme in Carndonagh in October and it went very well.
"We're delighted to continue our association with this historic church in the heart of Letterkenny. The Donegal Chamber Music Society has been presenting concerts here since 2012."

In a special treat for Valentine's week, the DCO will perform their acclaimed interpretation of Rota's 'A Time For Us', the love theme from Zeffirelli's masterpiece 'Romeo and Juliet'. A video of a DCO performance of the piece at Conwal three years ago, filmed by Brian Fleury from Ardara, has hit 27,000 views on YouTube.

The Donagh Choir and DCO concert will last for around an hour and won't have an interval. Tickets are €10/€5 concession and will be available on the door from 2.30pm.
