The Production Music Awards 2023

Monday, 20 November 2023, 7.00pm

The Production Music Awards—celebrating exceptional production music libraries and composers—announced its nominations list for 2023 in September 2023. The nominees span categories across Composition and Sync, and will be honoured at a ceremony at Here Outernet in London, on November 20, 2023.

MCPS Production Music, PRS For Music and Orfium join Cadenzabox as sponsors of the event that celebrates its biggest year in a decade.

In this year of growth across the board, there was a 10% year-on-year increase in entries and thus an expanded expert judging panel. Among the respected industry creative experts in this group, are those who have worked with A-list pop artists, some of the biggest and most iconic film and TV advertising music of recent years, renowned executives from the world’s leading advertising companies working with the most recognisable brands, marketers for major studios, industry award-winning music execs, and more.

Having sold out the last six iterations, the prestigious event has boosted capacity for 2023 and will once more host influential figures in the production music and sync industries from libraries, composers, music rights and royalty companies and music supervisors coming together to celebrate excellence. Huw Stephens will present the gathering of 350+ of the industry’s finest within the new Here at Outernet venue, boasting a unique, immersive AV experience. Tickets are available now productionmusicawards.com/tickets

Recognisable titles among nominees include Stranger Things, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Succession, Love Death and Robots, and The Last of Us. Those vying for the highly-contested Best Newcomer award, sponsored by PRS For Music, include Elkae (West One Music Group), Funky DL (KPM Music), Khalysis (BMG Production Music), Liam John Haygarth (1107 Studios), Richie Aikman (Audiomachine) and Toya Delazy (Extreme Music). The nominees have been selected by an expert industry panel and are deemed the finest in their sector across Composition (15 genre-specific categories for production music tracks, plus the Best Wildcard Track) and Sync (Best Use of Production Music across platforms including television (drama, factual, trailer and advertising), sports promo, film trailer, and digital/online advertising) strands. The judges were impressed with the quality of work from both independent and major outlets.

The Production Music Awards is a key platform that recognises the depth and quality of modern production music and provides global exposure to the wider sync and media industries. The growth of the UK-based event every year since its inception nine years ago reflects this flourishing corner of the industry that is estimated to be worth $1bn+*.

Richard Canavan, Founder of the Production Music Awards, says: “We’re delighted to once again be celebrating the best and brightest talents in the Production Music industry. The standard of entries in Composition and Sync categories this year has been so high, once again illustrating the wealth of talent we have in both the Composers and teams working at the libraries.”

Dan Gopal, Chief Commercial Officer, PRS for Music, adds: “Production Music is an integral part of the music landscape. The Production Music Awards recognise many of the fantastic composers and publishers whose best-in-class works enhance the media that consumers enjoy around the globe. We look forward to celebrating our members' achievements in November.”

The 2022 Synchtank report, Communication Breakdown: Complexities and Solutions in Music Rights Clearance, recognises that the production music market has ‘grown substantially in the last 20 years, with particularly concentrated growth in the last decade’. Within this report, *Midia Research analysis (Music sync market forecast: Production libraries raise the pitch, July 2022) suggests that the production music sector is estimated to be worth $1bn+ across recorded music and publishing and that during the pandemic production music libraries grew revenue.
