HHumperdincks Fairytale Opera takes to the stage in Dublin October 21st & 22nd
A gingerbread house sits in an eerie haunted forest… and two children are unable to resist temptation. But danger lurks and the wicked Gingerbread Witch is intent on evil. The children must overcome perilous obstacles to outsmart her – enlisting the help of the magical Dew Fairy and the Sandman along the way. Can Hansel & Gretel find their way home to Happy Ever After??
Lyric Opera presents Hansel & Gretel at the NCH on October 21st and 22nd in a magical fully staged production by VIVIAN J COATES. Engelbert Humperdink’s glorious operatic masterpiece is drawn from the much loved Grimms fairy tale and set to a stunning score, taking inspiration from lyrical German folk music, and dramatic Wagnerian opera! It has thrilled opera lovers and family audiences alike for 130 years. This production will be sung in English and feature surtitles.
A stellar Irish and International cast is led by thrilling Irish Mezzo SARAH RICHMOND as Hansel, and exciting young Irish soprano EIMEAR HARPER as Gretel in her operatic debut. Irish Mezzo CAROLYN HOLT delighted audiences as Charlotte in Werther in 2022, and she returns to Lyric Opera this season to sing the Mother. The highly acclaimed English baritone, DAN D’SOUZA sings The Father, and the sensational New Zealand Mezzo RHONDE BROWNE debuts as The Witch. Making up the cast are young, Irish and extremely talented AIMEE KEARNEY and SAMANTHA BRADY in the roles of The Sandman and The Dew Fairy respectively. The opera features a children’s chorus, under Musical Director Chris O’Sullivan. The LYRIC OPERA ORCHESTRA is conducted by the dynamic British conductor TOBY PURSER.
