Galway Music Residency is the programme that brought the ConTempo Quartet, now one of our premier string quartets and new music ensembles, to our shores. Established in 2002 with the intention of fostering the highest quality professional music makers in Galway, the initiative is involved in organising events and outreach programmes. To mark its tenth anniversary, Galway Music Residency is expanding their programme to include a Composer in Residence position, for which they have announced a call for submissions.

Applicants must be Irish or Ireland-based, and should submit a proposal of a work for the Ensemble in Residence, ConTempo Quartet, which will result in a commission for the winning entrant. The Composer in Residence will also be expected to regularly visit Galway to conduct school visits, compositional workshops and other outreach programmes. In addition, submissions should include the composer’s CV, support material in the form of two past scores with audio or video accompaniment, a timeline for the proposed work, and ideas for the educational aspect of the position. The winning composer will be selected by representatives of the Galway Music Residency, ConTempo Quartet and Contemporary Music Centre.

Deadline for applications is Friday 24 August.
