JOURNEY: Helen Hancock, Yue Tang, David Leigh
Saturday, 4th November 2023, 7.30pm
Sanford Parish Church, Ranelagh, Dublin 6
Journey is a concert of music by Schubert, Brahms, Hayden, Berlioz, Fauré, Strauss, Brey, and Amy Beach, themed around the journey of life and journeys of travel to foreign lands.
The performers are soprano, Helen Hancock, one of the West of Ireland’s most notable talents in Classical music; cellist Yue Tang, of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra; and David Leigh, Organist of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, on piano.
The centrepiece of the programme will be Schubert's evocative Auf dem Strom, exploring the journey at the end of life. By contrast, Verdure Clad from Haydn's Creation, celebrates the beginning of life.
Different kinds of journeys feature in Berlioz’s La Captive, exploring the complex emotions of a young woman exiled in Asia. Meanwhile, Carter Brey’s tango for cello, Tango Para Llaria, and Fauré’s Mandoline, celebrate the sounds and cultures of foreign lands.
The programme will also feature Schubert’s Die Forelle and An Die Musik; a cello arrangement of Brahms’ Wie Melodien Zieht Es Mir; and songs by Strauss and Amy Beach in arrangements for voice, cello and piano.
