Riverman, The Nick Drake Project
Nick Drake was unique and his achingly beautiful songs owed as much to the bucolic tradition of Vaughan Williams as the blues. At the time of his tragic death in 1974, he had only released three albums – Five Leaves Left, Bryter Lyter and Pink Moon . His lyrics were infused with the moods of 19th century Romantic poetry and explored themes of love, yearning and self-identity. Fear na hAbhann / River Man takes us into ‘an infinity of autumns’ with Drake’s songs performed by Liam Ó Maonlaí (vocals, piano), Neil Martin (cello), and Peter O’Toole (guitar). The lyrics have been transcreated into Irish by Gabriel Rosenstock. Screen projections by Margaret Lonergan. Produced by IMRAM Irish Literature Festival.
