Friday night’s(9th Aug) Musical Recital in St. Mary’s Church in the heart of the village is always a special night. This year Feakle’s musical ambassador Martin Hayes will be joined by Doug Wieselman, Liz Knowles and Dennis Cahill. The quartet continues Martin’s musical exploration of the tune. The melody remains central but with the added range of sonic possibilities provided by the bass clarinet and viola d’amore, the music is full of aural textures and improvised magic moments. Also in the concert are Garadice, featuring singer Eleanor Shanly, Dave Sheridan (Flute, Accordion and Piano), Padraig McGovern (Uillean pipes and Whistles) and John McCartin (guitar). The ensemble present beautiful arrangements of songs and tunes, some original and some not heard in over 200. From Donegal acclaimed fiddler Ciarán Ó Maonaigh and Caitlín Nic Gabhann on concertina. are a very impressive duo. The pair's spirited music and dance is rooted in the tradition, brimming with soul and energy. They breath fire into these ancient tunes, combining their musical craft with chemistry and dynamics.
