European Shakuhachi Society Summer School
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
The European Shakuhachi Society will hold its annual summer school at The Irish Institute of Music and Song in Balbriggan from July 20 to July 23. This bamboo flute often called ‘the sound of Japan’ has a varied repertoire including Zen-inspired pieces and ensembles with koto and shamisen.
There will be lessons for complete beginners as well as instruments to borrow. There are a team of world leading performers such as Riley Lee and Araki Kodo VI. There will also be a programme of concerts that will include the traditional Zen repertoire, ensemble and contemporary music. There will be improvisation workshops and two premieres. Full details are available on the website:
