Drogheda Traditional Music Weekend 27th – 29th November 2015
Drogheda Traditional Music Weekend celebrates its 19th year this year. Taking place during the last weekend in November, the festival features a niche programme of traditional music and places a special focus on traditional singing. It takes place in a number of cultural and historic locations in Drogheda including: Droichead Arts Centre, Barlow House, The Tholsel, Oldbridge House – Battle of the Boyne Site and Tí Chairbre.
Traditional Music Concert - Friday 27th of November

In honour of the late Caitlín Bean Uí Chairbre. This concert features two acts: Headliners, The Albiez Trio –Laoise Kelly (harp), Tola Custy (fiddle) and Cormac Breatnach (whistles), and duo, Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker. The Albiez Trio bring a unique style of Irish traditional music to the Droichead Arts Centre. The trio have varied backgrounds
and their music has many influences from many regions. Cormac’s music is highly influenced by jazz and blues, Laoise is regarded as one of the most significant harpists of her generation and Tola Custy comes from a well-known Clare family of musicians and composers.
Tunes in the Tholsel - Saturtday 28th of November
5:00pm – 6:00pm | The Tholsel, West St. Drogheda | Tickets: €5
Featuring Dave Sheridan (Fiddle) and Ciaran Somers (Flute) .This is an intimate family concert in the historic Tholsel building. Flute and fiddle merge beautifully in traditional music and there are no better exponents that this Carlow based duo. Dave comes originally from Offaly but has lived for many years in Carlow Town where he organises the local fleadh. Ciaran is much in demand as a musician and teacher, and mentors annually at the Willie Clancy Week. Together they can be heard on their debut CD “Faoi Bhlath”
