JMI Seeks Marketing Executive
JMI welcomes letters of application for the new post of Marketing & Promotions Executive. The position shall involve promoting the magazine at major music events throughout Ireland and developing new marketing initiatives. A part-time role, working from home on a flexi-time basis, the successful applicant shall have a full driving licence and own transport. Applicants should have a good knowledge of musical life in Ireland, marketing or promotions experience, and excellent communication and organisational skills. Ceolchuairt on TG4
Ceolchuairt is a new six-part music series beginning on TG4 on Sunday 27 January at 10pm. Each programme brings an Irish musician or singer on a personal pilgrimage to their very own musical Mecca. Featured musicians include Rossa and Rónán Ó Snodaigh in India (pictured), sean-nós dancer Seosamh Ó Neachtain in Harlem, singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh in Bulgaria, John Spillane in Senegal, Cormac Breatnach in the Basque country, and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh in Norway. Thomas Moore Remembered
The DIT Festival for Young Singers (14-22 January) is the first event of a year-long Thomas Moore Commemorative Festival, which celebrates the life and work of the nineteenth century Irish poet and songwriter. Subsequent events include an exhibition of his Irish Melodies at the Royal Irish Academy, the release of a CD by RTÉ Lyric FM, a conference at NUI Galway and the launch of a new archival website. Music Collectives

The Spatial Music Collective, with New Dublin Voices, conducted by Bernie Sherlock, present a programme of new music for spatialised choir and multi-channel electronics in the Chapel of Trinity College, Dublin on 30 January. On the following day, Ioana Petcu-Colan (violin) and David Flynn (guitar) perform music by the Young Composers’ Collective in the Unitarian Church, St Stephen’s Green. Temple Bar Trad
The third Temple Bar Trad Festival takes place in Dublin on 23-27 January. Featured singers and musicians include Róisín Elsafty, Breda and Claire Keville, John McEvoy and John Wynne, Susan McKeown, Paul Brock and Enda Scahill, Jackie Daly and the group Mozaik. Concerts are in the new Button Factory venue (formerly Temple Bar Music Centre) as well as the Project Arts Centre and the Olympia Theatre. There is also a number of events for children hosted by the Ark, including come-and-try workshops, storytelling by Nuala Hayes and Ellen Cranitch and children’s concerts. The Long Note
A new regular event hosted by Tony MacMahon combines instrumental music, song and poetry. The Long Note takes place monthly in the Ruille Buille bar, Dublin (formerly Major Tom’s), and consists of a themed first half, followed by a performance by MacMahon (accordion) and Steve Cooney (guitar). Bulb Tour
To launch their debut CD Bulb (NMC) of works by Irish composers Donnacha Dennehy, Deirdre Gribbin, Ed Bennett and Kevin Volans, the Fidelio Trio (Darragh Morgan, violin; Robin Michael, cello; Mary Dullea, piano) are undertaking a national tour between 30 January and 8 February. Horizons 2008
Three major premieres by Irish composers feature in the RTÉ NSO’s lunchtime Horizons series in January and February, John McLachlan’s Incunabula, Jerome de Bromhead’s Symphony No. 2 and Roger Doyle’s Adolf Gébler, Clarinettist (‘a soundtrack for an imaginary film’).
