French ensemble makes its Irish debut this October in 9-date tour.

Zaïde Quartet, which in 2012 won first prize and all three special prizes at the Vienna Haydn International Competition, will tour Ireland on 8–17 October.

Within their programme, the quartet – Charlotte Juillard, Leslie Boulin-Raulet, Sarah Chenaf and Juliette Salmona – will perform Philip Martin’s Celebration Quartet, which was commissioned by the West Cork Chamber Music Festival to celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2005.

The programme also feature’s Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 7, Mozart’s String Quartet in G major, K387, and Bartók’s String Quartet No. 5.

Zaïde’s tour begins in Dublin on Thursday 8 October and subsequently visits Castletown-Geoghegan, Dún Laoghaire, Clifden, Castleconnell, Carrick-on-Shannon, Waterford, Cork and Birr.

Zaïde is one of six ensembles or soloists selected this year for the ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) Rising Stars programme. Rising Stars brings outstanding young European artists to new audiences in Europe and the quartet was nominated by the Philharmonie de Paris.

In the past three years, Zaïde have also performed at the Wigmore Hall, Berlin Philharmonie and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. The quartet has also worked with violist Hatto Beyerle of the Alban Berg Quartet, and last year they released their debut album on the NoMad label featuring Janáček’s two quartets and Martinů’s Quartet No. 5.

This is the second Music Network tour of the autumn season, which has recently featured Irish and Scottish musicians Kathleen MacInnes, Dermot Byrne, Brian Finnegan and Mike Vass. Upcoming tours feature jazz trio GoGo Penguin and German baritone Benjamin Appl.
