Lunchtime with ConTempo: April

Lunchtime with ConTempo: April

Tuesday, 4 April 2017, 1.30pm

The Galway Music Residency’s Lunchtime with ConTempo series continues next Tuesday 4th April at 1:10pm. This popular series, which takes place in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, focuses on the late string quartets of Joseph Haydn (1732-1809).

The Galway ConTempo Quartet will perform String Quartet Op. 77, No. 1 next Tuesday, the first of Haydn’s last three string quartets, which represent his own most modern, consolidated and polished efforts in the form. It is often considered one of his greatest string quartets, a hallmark of Haydn and the Viennese style, and though quite a late work it shows no diminution of craft, creativity or energy from this great composer.

Supported by The Arts Council, NUI Galway and Galway City and County Councils, admission to this event is free, open to all and early arrival is recommended. Lunchtimes with ConTempo will take place on the first Tuesday of each month (September-June excepting January). For further information, visit www.thegalwaymusicresidency.ie
