Athenry Guitar Orchestras Festival concert

As part of their 10th birthday celebrations Athenry Music School will host its first Guitar Orchestra Festival concert on Sunday, April 2nd in the Community Hall, Athenry at 3:30p.m. With two orchestras from the school and the visiting Limerick School of Music Guitar Ensemble performing, the concert will culminate with the specially commissioned finale piece Chasing My Tail, Splat! which will involve the three groups performing together under the direction of composer Kevin Brett.

 

Pieces on the programme include music from W.A. Mozart, Brendan Walsh, Kevin Brett, Andrew Forrest, Ross O’Farrell, Rihanna, Muse and John O’Shea along with 4’33” by John Cage.

 

The Athenry Music School Guitar Orchestra was established in 2009 by Kevin Brett and has performed at a variety of events including the RTE Big Music Week in 2012, an appearance on Spillane an Fanaí on TG4, an annual performance at the Galway Fringe Festival along with appearances at Muscailt, the Coole Orchestras Festival, Culture Night and last year’s Incredible Edible, Athenry which was an integral part of the successful Galway bid for the European Capital of Culture 2020.

Limerick School of Music Guitar Ensemble is directed by renowned guitarist John O’Shea. Last year John established the Irish Youth Guitar Orchestra
