Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny
Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny with Eoin and Anna Quinn
In honour of the remarkable 19th century music-collector James Goodman, who was rector in Skibbereen from 1867 and who built this beautiful church which opened in 1890, we are delighted to present two giants of the Irish traditional scene, Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny.
Between them, Irvine and Lunny have been at the helm of legendary bands like Planxty, Sweeney’s Men, The Bothy Band, Moving Hearts and Mozaik. Their unique style of accompaniment is an on-going influence in the wider world of traditional music and both have contributed heavily to the renaissance of Irish music over the past forty five years. Tonight they will present a programme of Irish music and songs including some of Andy’s originals, as well as music from Eastern Europe and beyond. Do not miss this unique opportunity to see two of the legends of Irish music on stage together!
To open tonight’s concert we are thrilled to introduce two excellent young local musicians. Eoin Quinn is the finest young piper in Skibbereen and got his love of traditional music and particularly the uileann pipes from his grandfather Hugh. His first cousin Anna is a fine fiddler from Clonakilty. We know that Canon Goodman would be very pleased to hear the sound of the pipes still being played on the site where he himself played so many tunes almost 150 years ago.
