Concorde ensemble are joined by the Galway Ensemble in Residence, ConTempo Quartet, for the 3rd event in this year’s series, Up Close with Music, at the RHA Gallery, Ely Place, Dublin 2.  The programme features the premiere of a new work by Concorde’s director Jane O’Leary: ‘the echo of all that’s happened’, written for string quartet with alto flute and clarinet.  The title is from Dermot Healy’s poetry collection, ‘A Fool’s Errand’.  Also receiving a Dublin premiere is Alyson Barber’s sextet for strings with flute and bass clarinet - ‘Illusions’ and Deirdre McKay’s trio for accordion, clarinet and violin: ‘buttons, breath, bow’, a Concorde commission from 2013.

International works on the programme include the Irish premiere of Raymond Yiu’s quintet for clarinet, accordion, violin, viola and cello - ‘Les Etoiles au Front’ (2012) and Finnish composer Riikka Talvitie’s ‘Suven Savel’ (sounds of summer) for flute and accordion.  A Dublin premiere for Swedish composer Daniel Nelson’s extraordinary accordion quintet - ‘My Inner Disco’ from 2001.

Concorde musicians for the concerts are Madeleine Staunton, flutes; Paul Roe, clarinets; Dermot Dunne, accordion; and ConTempo Quartet.

The concerts are presented with the support of an Arts Council Music Project Award.  The Galway Ensemble in Residence ConTempo Quartet appear with the support of The Galway Music Residency (www.thegalwaymusicresidency.ie)
