Kakatsitsi Master Drummers from Ghana
Kakatsitsi Master Drummers from Ghana in performance in Ireland for the first time. Combining rhythms and chants from their own Ga tradition with other West African traditions, using a wide variety of percussion instruments as well as bamboo flutes and xylophone, their infectious grooves are guaranteed to keep the audience on their feet.
In 2013, Kakatsitsi made further progress towards establishing themselves as one of the leading traditional drumming groups in Africa. The highlight of the tour was an appearance on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival with electronic dance music pioneers The Orb, in front of more than 8,000 people.
Support on the night will come from percussion ensemble, Rithim led by Irish maestro Eamonn Cagney and comprising drummers form Ghana, Nigeria, Cuba, Congo, Switzerland and Ireland. They will premier a new composition, by Eamonn, commissioned by the Arts Council.
