An exciting cross-cultural collaboration melding Irish dance tradition with high-energy contemporary movement, lightening fast footwork and dynamic music.  When the urban rhythms of Montreal meet and intermingle with the rural rhythms of traditional dance and music in Ireland, the result is magical!

Featuring [ZØGMA] dancers and Marie Pierre Lecault (Quebecois fiddle), with Irish artists Laoise Kelly (harp), Edwina Guckian (dance), Caitlín Nic Gabhann (concertina & dance), Liam O’ Scanlain (dance).

Canada’s only percussive dance company, [ZØGMA]are inspired by the living tradition in creating contemporary work and a new aesthetic to Quebec’s folklore.  Blending the percussive vocabulary of traditional Quebecois ‘gigue’ with the fluidity of contemporary dance, their unique style seamlessly blends dance, music and song into powerful rhythmic works.

An Irish / Canadian Co-Production commissioned by The Dock, Leitrim with [ZØGMA], Quebec.

“Go to this show..incredible!  Loved every second” Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh (Altan)

“Hearing the music of both cultures was like listening to two dialects of the same language, each possessing its own unmistakable draw and nuances, and both blending harmoniously together. The dance collaboration introduced me to an entirely new approach to folk dance, with one foot tapping in the past and the other foot stepping into the future, it was a fascinating dance dialogue which enriched my understanding of both traditions”. - Tristan Rosenstock, (Imeall, TG4)
