Win Tickets to Lionel Loueke

The Beninese guitarist Lionel Loueke plays at the Workman’s Club, Dublin, on 21 April as part of the Improvised Music Company’s Progressions series — and The Journal of Music has two tickets to give away.

Born in Benin, Loueke moved to the Ivory Coast at the age of seventeen to study at the National Institute of Art, before moving to Paris in 1994 to study jazz at the American School of Modern Music. He later moved to Boston to study at Berklee before joining the Thelonious Monk Insitute of Jazz.

Described by Herbie Hancock as ‘a musical painter’, Loueke is known for his distinctive guitar playing style, complex harmonies and the influence of West African folk forms. His latest album, Heritage, was released on the Blue Note label last year.

To enter our competition for tickets, please submit the form below by 12.00 on Tuesday, 16 April. This competition is now closed.
