Traditional Music in West Dublin, Strokestown and Doonbeg

Féile Frank Mc Gann in Strokestown, Co Roscommon, the Willie Keane Memorial Weekend in Doonbeg, Co Clare, and the Des Carty Sessions in west Co Dublin offer a wide range of traditional music concerts in the weeks ahead.

Féile Frank Mc Gann in its tenth anniversary is taking place from Friday, 12 to Sunday 14 October 2012, in Strokestown, County Roscommon. The Kitchen Session on Friday night takes place at 9pm in Strokestown Park and has Micheál Ó Raghallaigh and Danny O’Mahony playing tunes from their recent CD As it Happened. Dervish play the Gala concert on Saturday night at 8pm, and the Tulla Céilí Band play on Sunday evening from 3 to 6pm, both taking place in the Percy French Hotel.

The Willie Keane Memorial Weekend takes place in Doonbeg, Co Clare from 26 to 29 October. The Traditional Concert on Saturday night, taking place in Halla an Phoball starts at 8pm and features a double bill of Four Men and a Dog, and Seamus Begley and Jim Murray. The singing session on Sunday in Comerford’s at 2pm features Donie Nolan, Mary Conroy, Philip Enright and West Limerick Singers Club with Joe O’Connor acting Fear an Tí.

The Des Carty Sessions, which is not limited to traditional music, takes place around various venues in west County Dublin intermittently from Saturday, 13 October to Sunday, 21 October. Highlights include a free concert on Thursday the 18th at 8pm in Celbridge Library, featuring the duos of Matt Cranitch and Jackie Daly, and Paul de Grae and Paddy Cronin. The next day the ‘Music of Des Carty Recital’ takes place at 8pm in Saggart Heritage Centre and features Paul Kelly, Liam Kennedy, Tom Moran, Niamh Ní Bheoláin, Dave Cassidy, Jimmy Cahill, with admission free. The Bluegrass Night takes place on Saturday the 20th at 8pm in the same venue and features Jim Rooney, Mick Daly, Maeve Toner, Jimmy Kelly, MC Liam Kennedy  with admission €6.

The Jazz Session takes place on Sunday at 4pm in the Rathcoole Inn and features Hugh Buckley and The Roe Brothers. And the final concert of the week is at 8pm in Scoil Náisiúnta Chrónáin, Main Street, Rathcoole, and features Siobhan Peoples, Tola Custy, The Voice Squad, Pip and John Murphy, The Mandolin Band, with MC Finbarr Boyle and admission €10.
