Stockhausen Festival and Opera in Birmingham

A Stockhausen festival is being held at the University of Birmingham to accompany the staged premiere of Mittwoch aus Licht.

On 22 August Birmingham Opera will present the world staged premiere of Stockhausen’s Mittwoch aus Licht; ‘Wednesday’ from the composer’s gargantuan and mystical Licht cycle.

In honour of this premiere production, the University of Birmingham are hosting a three day mini-festival of performances, talks and discussions. Entitled ‘Stockhausen - A Festival of Light’, the event will run from 19 to 21 August, and includes a visit to dress rehearsal of Mittwoch aus Licht on 21 August. Speakers at the event include Stockhausen collaborators such as Suzanne Stephens and Angela Tunstall, and musicologists and composers such as Jerome Kohl and Richard Barrett.

The full three days, including tickets for the dress rehearsal and more, are priced at £65, £45 for students.
