Irish-Russian Chamber Music Festival to Take Place for Second Time

The Irish-Russian Chamber Music Festival is to take place for the second time in October 2013. The festival, based in Moscow, will feature Irish musicians such as the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet and the flute player William Dowdall, as well as Russian musicians, including the harpist Nika Ryabchinenko and the pianist Olga Solovieva.

The festival programme is said to include ‘Irish music of four centuries’ including works by contemporary Irish composers. The event is subtitled ‘From John Field to Twenty-First Century’ and will run from 30 October to 5 November this year.

Some support (usually for travel and accommodation for Irish artists) will have come from the Irish government body Culture Ireland, but the organisers of the festival are running an Indiegogo funding campaign to cover the rest of the costs. A total of $5,500 is being sought to cover costs such as venue rental, publicity, documentation and to commission a new work from and Irish composer.
