Horizons Contemporary Music Series 2013

A total of 16 works will be presented in the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra’s Horizons contemporary music series which runs between 22 January and 12 February 2013. Consisting of four free lunchtime concerts, focussing on the work of Irish composers Raymond Deane (celebrating his 60th birthday), Linda Buckley, Ann Cleare and Jonathan Nangle, the series will also present work by Irene Buckley, Donal Sarsfield, Carl Ruggles and Iannis Xenakis.

Three of the works featured are RTÉ commissions: Linda Buckley’s chiyo (2011) and Surge (2012) and Jonathan Nangle’s Now is night come quietly (2010). The latter work was recorded by the RTÉ NSO in 2010 and formed part of the Irish submission to the International Rostrum of Composers 2011. Raymond Deane’s Ripieno, which will be performed on 5 February, has also previously been released on the RTÉ label. In advance of their individual concerts, each of the featured composers will be in conversation with Contemporary Music Centre Director Evonne Ferguson.
