Cycle from Dublin to Clare for Na Píobairí Uilleann

Na Píobairí Uilleann is organising a sponsored cycle from Dublin to Miltown Malbay for the fourth time in July. Reels on Wheels takes two days and puts cyclists in the County Clare town in time for the traditional music festival and summer school Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy, which runs from 6 to 14 July this year.

Reels on Wheels starts in Lucan, County Dublin, on the morning of 5 July and, following an overnight stop in Birr, County Offally, arrives in Miltown Malbay on the evening of 6 July. The cycle is aimed at cyclists of all abilities, though participants should be able to cycle 130km in one day and must be over eighteen years of age.

Funds raised go towards the cost of running Na Píobairí Uilleann and various subsidiary projects such as the PipeCraft training centre in Clonshaugh, Dublin. Over €30,000 was raised in the last three years. Cyclists taking part should pay an initial deposit of €150 before 19 April and are then encouraged to raise up to €500 in sponsorship.

‘Safety is obviously paramount and the cycle is marshalled by experienced cyclists while lead and rear cars provide essential back up to the participants while also carrying your gear and instruments,’ say the organisers. Wearing a helmet is compulsory for all participants.
