Camerata Ireland to Perform for European Parliament

The Irish chamber orchestra Camerata Ireland is to perform for the EU Parliament in Brussels on Monday, 18 March. The orchestra will perform for more than 300 invited guests as part of Ireland’s presidency of the European Union.

The concert, which features music by Beethoven and John Field, is part of the orchestra’s current European tour, which will reach France, Belgium and Poland. The Brussels performance is officially at the invitation of Diane Dodds, MEP for Northern Ireland.

Pianist and conductor Barry Douglas said that Camerata Ireland had ‘created strong links with Europe performing for many different audiences in a host of venues from northern Finland to the south of France’. European connections, said Douglas, have ‘enabled [Camerata Ireland] to provide unique training and performance opportunities for our young musicians’.

The orchestra will also feature in the Derry-Londonderry City of Culture events this year, as well as their first BBC Proms performance and the Kilkenny Arts Festival in August.
