A new documentary exploring the history of Irish hip hop will be broadcast this Thursday on RTÉ One at 10:15pm. Origins: The Story of Irish Hip Hop documents the evolution of the genre in Ireland over the past forty years and features interviews with musicians, journalists, music industry professionals and fans.

Commenting on the current scene, Irish Times journalist Una Mullally, who contributes to the programme, says:

Historically, you do see Irish hip hop being filtered through the American experience. Those are stories from afar… I think now we’re telling our own stories.

Commissioned by Red Bull, Origins: The Story of Irish Hip Hop was directed by Mark Logan for Collective Films

The documentary will also stream on Red Bull’s website on 11 September, Visit www.redbull.com/ie-en/projects/origins-irish-hip-hop-film.
