New Appointments to the Arts Council

Melatu Uche Okorie, Jillian van Turnhout and Claudine McMahon appointed by Minister Madigan.

The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan has announced the appointment of Melatu Uche Okorie, Jillian Van Turnhout and Claudine McMahon to the Arts Council for a five-year term.

Okorie is the author of the short-story collection This Hostel Life, which was recently turned into an opera by composer Evangelia Rigaki and Irish National Opera. Okorie is also a creative writing workshop facilitator for children and young people and a PhD student at Trinity College Dublin. She is currently on the board of the National Network of Migrant Women in Ireland, AKIDWA.

Jillian van Turnhout is a consultant in the area of governance, advocacy and strategic planning. She is a director and trustee of the One in Four Ireland charity and a former senator.

Claudine McMahon is currently Head of Talent, Organisation Development and People Operations at Vodafone Ireland. She previously held HR positions with Centric Health, the AIB Group and The Walt Disney Studios.

In April, Kevin Rafter of DCU was appointed as the new chair of the Council.
