Improvised 'Piece by Piece' Series Continues This Week with Lauren Kinsella, Chris Guilfoyle, Vicky Langan and Chris Engel

Concerts take place online every Friday at 8pm until the end of the month.

Improvised Music Company (IMC) has announced the line-up for this month’s ‘Piece by Piece’ concerts. Piece by Piece was first launched last April and features a series of improvisers responding to each other’s work like a musical ‘chain letter’, creating a new work for each online performance. In November, a second series was launched, which is continuing until the end of this month.

The upcoming performances will take place every Friday from 8 to 29 January and will feature singer and composer Lauren Kinsella (8 January), jazz guitarist Chris Guilfoyle (15 January), sound and performance artist Vicky Langan (22 January) and saxophonist Chris Engel (29 January). The concerts will take place at 8pm, streaming from IMC’s YouTube channel

Commenting on the series, IMC said:

The first series of Piece by Piece demonstrated the rich possibilities of the online medium, as some of Ireland’s finest improvising artists created new musical and visual works developed specifically as online videos. Creative use of film and manipulated visuals showed the artists’ inspirations and thought processes, from walks within lockdown radius to kitchen appliances which became part of the composition.

With this current series, ‘the principle of interconnectedness will continue, with each artist’s performance influencing or inspiring the next.’

Composer and guitarist Aengus Hackett, violinist Cora Venus Lunny and Belfast drummer Steve Davis have already taken part in earlier episodes of the series.

All concerts are free to view and the series can be watched back in full here. For more, visit www.improvisedmusic.ie.
