Composer Jane O'Leary to be Honoured by Music For Galway

Recognition through Buan Chara award for founder member and former artistic programmer.

Jane O’Leary will be honoured by Music for Galway this Thursday (12 April) prior to a performance by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.

The Board of Galway’s classical music concert promoter is taking the opportunity to bestow the title of Buan Chara on the composer for her contribution to the organisation since 1981. The Buan Chara (‘permanent friend’) award has been given to three others for their contribution to the organisation – sculpture John Behan, Sean Stewart of Stuart Construction and Enda Rohan who wrote the programme notes for two decades.

O’Leary was a founder member of Music for Galway in 1981 and was at the helm of artistic programming for many seasons. She retired in 2013 after 32 years of involvement.

The announcement will take place prior to a concert at Leisureland. The RTÉ NSO are performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, and Korngold’s Violin Concerto performed by Carolin Widmann. The conductor is Ben Gernon, Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic.

Tickets (€10–€25) are available from www.musicforgalway.ie
