Music Current 2020, Spatial Music Workshop

In this practical hands-on introductory workshop, composers will review the technical requirements for spatial electroacoustic music production in a concert setting.

The workshop will be led by Enda Bates who will guide participants in reviewing presentation formats, compositional implications of using various loudspeaker arrangements, file formats, best practices in file management and distribution, file types, loudspeaker alignment techniques and how to share information with sound engineers. Participants will review specific practical issues relating to realising submitted works, as well as strategies for dealing with differing, unexpected or flexible sparkler layouts.

Suitable for all composers of electroacoustic music, who are interested in learning about the practical aspects of spatial sound reproduction is concert environments. Participant composers are not required to have any prior knowledge or experience of sound projection or spatialisation, but should conversant with contemporary music aesthetics and electroacoustic music techniques. Selected submitted works will be realised in a dedicated concert with octophonic loudspeaker array.
