Bláth na hÓige
Bláth na hÓige is a new seven part series on TG4, showcasing the multi-faceted talents of young sean-nós singers Caoimhe & Séamus Ó Flatharta, Méabh Ní Bheaglaoich, Cathal Ó Curráin, Megan Nic Ruairí, Piaras Ó Lorcáin and Máire & Étáin Ní Churraoin. Green shoots from the deep roots of the sean-nós singing tradition, from Conamara to Rann na Feirste, from Ráth Chairn to Oriall and from Corca Dhuibhne to Gaoth Dobhair, this project is an exciting adventure of artistic discovery for these young singers and a memorable waypoint on their musical journeys.
The series follows these young singers at this early stage of their musical careers, with direction from renowned sean-nós singer Síle Denvir and fiddle player Colm Mac an Iomaire at at Stiúideo Cuan in Conamara, as they creatively explore and make their own Ireland's unique sean-nós tradition.
Series directors Feilimí O’Connor & Oisín Ó hEartáin have set out to present sean-nós song tradition as an integral part of Ireland’s musical and cultural landscape and as living tradition: "These songs are thriving in a flourishing age of creativity and the current generation of young singers are dedicated to the art of sean-nós singing with a refreshing confidence, pride and dedication".
