East Cork Early Music Seeks Board Members

East Cork Early Music is seeking to appoint new members to its Board of Directors, to assist us in our work towards a flourishing early music scene in Cork and Ireland.

We are particularly seeking candidates with corporate sector experience, fund-raising development experience, candidates with a charitable organisation and non-profit experience, or candidates with strategic and business planning experience, however, we welcome applications from any candidates who feel they have other skills to contribute to East Cork Early Music’s work.

The East Cork Early Music Festival promotes and develops historically-informed (early) music performances in Cork city and county, around the central point of its annual autumn festival. ECEM aims to bring audiences engaging experiences of early music and spaces through vibrant historically-informed approaches, which share qualities with the best of classical, folk and improvised music. It also aims to support the development of historically-informed artists in their practice, and facilitate excellence and innovation in early music in Ireland.

Role Description

We are particularly interested in candidates with any of the following skills, knowledge:
Business/corporate sector experience with connections to fundraising and development opportunities
Experience in marketing or public relations, particularly in the events or cultural sectors.
Experience with charitable organisations and non-profits, preferably including engaging with the Charities Regulator.
Experience with arts, culture, or heritage outside of music, including venues, multi-disciplinary projects and festivals.
Experience in strategic planning and business plan creation.
An interest in early or classical music, history or the arts generally.

Board member responsibilities will include:

Approving the ECEM executive’s financial and business planning annually.
Advising on ECEM's strategic development, particularly relating to your area of expertise.
Providing feedback on ECEM’s funding applications, particularly with reference to major funding from the Arts Council.
Leading or participating in sub-committees regarding specific areas of ECEM’s development.
Recommending or sourcing opportunities for ECEM to engage with businesses in relation to partnerships, sponsorships or fundraising
Recommending or sourcing opportunities for ECEM to engage with artists or other arts organisations in relation to collaborative projects or developments.

East Cork Early Music aims for its Board to reflect Ireland’s diversity. East Cork Early Music welcomes applications without regard to ethnicity, gender or sexuality, from persons with disabilities and persons of any socio-economic or cultural backgrounds.

Time Commitment

Approximately 6 Board Meetings per annum. East Cork Early Music meetings are currently taking place online and will make provisions for board members to continue to meet in this way in the future. Board members who choose to participate in sub-committees of the Board towards specific goals may attend additional meetings, online or otherwise.

Remuneration

As a registered charity, board membership of East Cork Early Music does not carry any financial remuneration.

Location

East Cork Early Music is based in Cork city, however, due to the ongoing pandemic restrictions, board meetings are currently taking place entirely online. Digital attendance will also be a possibility into the future for board members not based in Cork.
