Galway Music Residency partners with Athenry Music School to present a special lunchtime concert in the beautiful Athenry Castle.

ConTempo Quartet will perform Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, composed in 1960, which the composer privately stated was a eulogy to himself. The quartet will also perform Galway composer Katharina Baker’s Galway Suite in tribute to her contribution to music education and music-making in Galway city and county.
ConTempo Quartet will be joined by a number of young soloists and ensembles from Athenry Music School, who will showcase their talents:

Fiachra Niland (solo piano)
Maia Englebrecht (solo violin)

Entry to the concert is free. Capacity is extremely limited and booking is required via www.eventbrite.ie. Due to the age of the building, there is unfortunately no step-free access and some surfaces are uneven.
