Director, Creative Services
New York City Ballet seeks an experienced and highly creative Art Director to join a fast-paced Marketing & Media department as Director, Creative Services. This is a hands-on design position that will champion the NYCB brand, and oversee the Creative Services design team in the cooperative development and execution of effective institutional and seasonal communications.
Responsibilities:
–Maintain the integrity of the NYCB brand, helping to evolve, build and promote it
–Ideate and pitch the Company’s annual season creative/marketing campaign concept/s
–Oversee the creation and execution of fully integrated campaigns, including various print and digital design projects including but not limited to publications, all collateral and brochures, posters, signage, outdoor, logos, print/online advertising, digital graphics, merchandise, and exhibits
–Find, recommend, and commission creatives
–Art direct and oversee all company photo shoots working with internal media producer and when applicable, outside production companies, to produce all facets of the shoots; liaise with talent management to contract photographers/directors; and negotiate all production fees and rights usage for assets
–In tandem with the Senior Director, work to build, monitor and refine team expense budgets
–Collaborate with other directors in the Marketing & Media department in support of departmental and institutional goals
–Provide design oversight and inform/influence best practices, communicating across Marketing & Media teams and other internal NYCB departments to maintain a consistent visual approach across all deliverables/channels
–Manage the work, workflow and scheduling of the design team, in conjunction with all areas of the department and institution, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and on budget
–Provide mentorship to design team, fostering a collaborative environment
–Maintain an understanding of the latest trends in design, typography, photography, art and culture
–Develop production protocols
–Maintain an archive for all work, with rapid location and retrieval in mind
–Provide support for other departmental activities as needed
Qualifications:
–Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in graphic design and/or fine arts
–A minimum of 10 years of progressive and proven design experience, including 4+ years of team management; experience in culture/luxury goods/editorial industries a plus
–Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design principals, typographic, promotional and editorial design, and a wide variety of media and production methods required
–Mastery of design and presentation software packages to include Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint and Word with some Excel experience, Premiere and After Effects a plus
–Proven understanding of brand management
–Experience art directing and producing photo and video shoots
–Ability to concept big picture thinking whilst working and executing on the day to day
–Attention to detail, with strong organizational, project management, and multi-tasking skills
–Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak with and translate between technical and non-technical
–Reliable and self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment
